UPDATED – HORROR AT BROOKLYN CAR WASH: Two Elderly Victims Struck By Out Of Control Car; 1 Killed, 1 Critical

An 85-year-old woman was killed and her 90-year-old husband is fighting for his life, after an out of control car hit them at a Brooklyn car wash.

Police say that at around 3:00PM, FDNY and the NYPD responded to a report of a serious collision at a car wash located at Gerritsen Avenue and Avenue U.

Upon arrival, FDNY Paramedics found an an 85 year-old female unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to her head and body and a 90 year-old male with severe trauma to the head and body. EMS pronounced the 85 year-old female deceased at the scene and transported the 90 year-old male to Lutheran Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Police say that the initial investigation revealed that the 85 year-old female and 90 year-old male was evaluating the damage to the rear of their silver Honda Accord, which had just been rear-ended by a black Jeep Liberty that exited the car wash. A 61 year-old male worker entered the Jeep and reversed the vehicle and then struck the building. The male then accelerated forward and struck the two pedestrians, who were standing behind their Honda Accord.

CBS New York aired surveillance footage of the crash, and can be seen below.

The operator of the Jeep Liberty remained on scene.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.

The deceased has been identified as Joan M. Tornabene, 3304 Avenue Brooklyn, NY.

  1. I’m not sure why this is being reported as an accident. Looks clearly like 2nd degree murder. Perhaps the employee had a gripe with them.
