Jerusalem Municipality Sets Regulations In Place Before Lag B’Omer

With Lag B’Omer closing in, the Jerusalem Municipality has announced regulations for the day.

In order to prepare for the bonfires, the Jerusalem Municipality is preparing areas for the construction of the bonfires where signs will be erected to allow the construction of a campfire.

The project of preparing the area of bonfires was expanded to all parts of the city, in light of the success of the pilot conducted by the municipality in previous years in the southern neighborhoods of the city. The areas will be adapted to people with disabilities and special needs as well, who will be able to take part in the festivities without any risk.

Jerusalem Municipality officials explain they work hard to prevent damage to the public space, and to protect the environment and remove the fires from residential buildings.

The Municipality reminds the celebrant public that the location of the bonfire must be determined in a clean area of thorns and weeds, within reasonable distance from buildings and installations. The fire should be set up with stones, and combustible material should be removed from the bonfire, fire should be avoided near electric installations or electricity lines, or high piles of trees should be set and burned under the extremely poor electrical grid. This is a life-threatening situation, causing damage to facilities and disrupting the supply of electricity.

At the end of the celebrations, the fire must be completely shut down by pouring sand or water. In every case of an exceptional event, the municipality asks the public to call the fire department.

The fire department, including rescue services, will be on call and the guards will be reinforced with additional manpower. Before lighting the bonfires, there will be persons out for early patrols with the police representative, the municipal supervision and the gardening department in all the neighborhoods and places where bonfires will be lit. Firefighters will give instructions to the celebrants for the purpose of security and the prevention of dangers to the persons and property.

  1. I doubt if the kids who do many of the ad hock medurahs will adhere to the city’s request. As always, the kids build these large bonfires by themselves and have a great time.

In some cases there is damage to the street ….
