Palestinian networks and organizations recently called on European Union (EU) citizens to ask their governments to suspend the EU’s trade agreements with Israel, until the latter “complies with international law.” The call, which is endorsed by numerous anti-Israel organizations in Europe, makes point that the “time has come to take action and to [end Israel’s] occupation and colonization of Arab lands. It is time to end European complicity with Israeli war crimes.”
Among the groups endorsing the petition are those from Germany, Belgium, France and the UK. According to pro-Palestinian groups, the EU is Israel’s biggest importer of goods and its second biggest exporter. The EU-Israel Association Agreement, being attacked by the activists, forms the “legal basis for this relationship which gives Israel preferential trade terms with EU countries.”
