The Knesset Law Committee has approved amending a law which now compels declaring over 12,000 NIS at a Gaza border crossing towards cutting the Hamas money pipeline.
Until now, the law at most border crossings demanded one declaring more than 100,000 NIS as one leaves the country. At the Allenby Crossing to Jordan, the amount demanding a declaration is 12,000 NIS, equivalent to 2,000 Jordanian dinars. ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yoram Levy called upon Finance Minister Dr. Yuval Steinitz to apply the Allenby Crossing sum to the Gaza crossing too.
Levy pointed out that large sums of money were legally crossing from Israel into Gaza and these funds are used to assist terror organizations. GSS officials added that many a time large sums of money cross from Israel to Gaza under the guise of humanitarian assistance but with the amended law in place, this will no longer be the case.
