Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman took part in a toast to Israel’s 70th birthday together with the IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkott and the officers in the Chief of Staff’s Forum on Sunday. During the forum, Netanyahu took a moment to address recent remarks made by Iranian Foreign Minister Muhamad Zarif who recently said that Israel was breaking international law.
“Today I heard the remarks made by the Iranian Foreign Minister who accused Israel of breaking international law. This is the foreign minister of a country that has recently sent armed drones against Israel and missiles against Saudi Arabia. I also heard his more level-headed statements, and there is a tremendous gap between the words and the actions of the revolutionary guard, who are setting up an army to attack Israel with the declared intent of destroying the State of Israel completely. I personally am not moved by words.
Rather I rely on the people in this forum and in the IDF who is prepared for any conflict and any possible threat. I, therefore, raise my glass to you the IDF and to the State of Israel.”
During an interview on Sunday morning with the CBS show “Face the Nation,” Zarif said: I don’t believe that we are headed to a regional war. However, Israel continues to break international law on a continuous basis under the belief that the United States will continue to provide it with aid and create smoke screens for all of the actions it takes. These smokescreens have become ineffective and no one believes them anymore.”
