AviK: As I wrote so many times before, it’s a demonstration and expression of HaShem’s great love of His children, IN SPITE of their connection (or lack thereof) to Him. No one will argue that the “founding fathers” were worthy (nuff said)…. It’s HaShem’s undeserved, unbound love and kindness He extends toward His people and His land, His especial gift.
So, for that we thank Him every day. Not on a day some bare-headed politician decided to announce “let us be like all other nations” (five minutes before the zman (or was it afterwards?))
