According to statistics released by the Israel Cancer Society, the number one cause of death in Israel is now cancer, which R”L has increased by 56% over the last three decades. Officials report 26,000 new patients will be diagnosed annually.
Cancer society officials explain that the numbers have been climbing since the 1980s, and despite the fact the population in Israel has tripled since then, so has the number of people diagnosed with the illness. In 1980 there were 9,477 Israeli diagnosed with cancer as opposed to 26,599 in 2009. The biggest increase in the number of patients diagnosed with the illness appears in the Arab community, with 218 cases in 1980 and 1,159 in 2010. Among the women, there were 149 cases in 1980 and 1,093 in 2010.

That’s good. It means other diseases aren’t getting to you when you are younger. Back in the good old days, most people never lived long enough to get cancer.
Personal and professional opinion:
Tobacco use is the number one cause. It is a terrible addiction that has regretfully been allowed to be marketed. The “Yeshiva World” should set a leading example to break the social norm and acceptability of smoking, and not admit smokers. Most authorities agree that starting to smoke is a Torah prohibition, and smokers should be encouraged and helped to try to quit.
Since DNA is the common denominator of human cells and DNA is comprised of amino acids and the double helix structure of DA was discovered by two British scientists in the 1950s, isn’t it possible to use modern computers and associated technology to determine the structure of good DNA vs bad DNA in liver, colon, pancreas, lung etc. Then to capitalize on the differences to find a cure/control of cancer ???? Or am I a nut ???
A goy, Gerry Mullen
PS: May I suggest ALL Jews do more Talmud Torah, more davvening, and more chesed (Deeds of kindness)—and paradoxically be very, very careful of goy including ME !!!!
