Six years ago, a special fund was set up by MDA to help Holocaust survivors fund ambulance evacuations in cases where the HMO does not cover them.
The unique fund was instigated by MDA in order to alleviate the tens of thousands of World War II survivors who are currently living in Israel and who suffer from physical, mental and financial hardships and need occasional medical assistance and urgent evacuation in ambulances and Mobile Intensive Care Units.
Every year, MDA receives requests from Holocaust survivors who are not entitled to refunds for evacuations in an ambulance from external bodies such as the HMO, National Insurance, insurance companies, etc., and the financial burden was placed on their shoulders.
Magen David Adom, which is obligated by the Magen David Adom Law to charge each patient a fee for evacuation in an ambulance, has devised a creative solution to the problem, which will make it easier to alleviate the burden of Holocaust survivors.
MDA Director-General Eli Bin: ” MDA is obligated by law to collect a fee for from any person who is evacuated by ambulance, but in certain cases it is necessary to consider and find a solution for the needs of the individual, first and foremost the Holocaust survivors. Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Israel at the end of the war were full partners in the establishment and development of the country, and therefore we set a goal to assist them and worked hard to establish a special fund to cover the costs of evacuation by ambulance and professional medical services from MDA teams in order to help tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors living in Israel today. ”
