PHOTOS: Staten Island COJO Passover Food Give Away Helps Make Celebrating Pesach A Reality

With Pesach just says away, the Staten Island Council of Jewish Organizations (COJO-SI) hosted its annual Passover Food Drive and Distribution.

Thanks to the efforts of COJO-SI — Tuesday at the Young Israel of Staten Island in Willowbrook — approximately 800 local families are able to enjoy Passover 2018 with the traditional foods necessary to experience festive Sedarim and holiday meals.

This year marks the 40th year that COJO has helped ensure all members of the Staten Island community can celebrate Passover in a dignified manner in accordance with Jewish traditions and customs.

Mendy Mirocznik, president of COJO acknowledged Larry Cohen, director of the Food Pantry at COJO and his team of volunteers for doing a great job in organizing the Passover food drive and distribution.

He also shouted praises for the generous COJO Food pantry partners who made this Passover Food Drive and Distribution possible, such as, Zanita Johnson, manager of Member Services at Food Bank for New York City, Susan Fowler, from, City Harvest, David Greenfield, CEO Met Council, Rabbi Yaakov Lehrfield, and Dr. Lousi Emmer, President of Young Israel of Staten Island.

Also on hand in supporting and assisting with the Passover food distribution was New York City Councilman Joe Borelli.

“The COJO Passover Food Relief is just one component of our pantry that services all people of Staten Island. Our goal is to make sure that no person goes hungry in Staten Island,” said Mirocznik.

Scott Maurer, CEO and Executive Vice-President of COJO agreed and added, “My dream is that no one should experience poverty and huger and the pantry should go out of business due to a lack of clients in need. However, until we reach that day, we here at COJO are in the business of combating hunger.”
