Lakewood: 159 People Took Advantage Of Controversial Medicaid Fraud Amnesty Program

A controversial program that allowed residents of one New Jersey county who received unwarranted Medicaid benefits to withdraw without prosecution has resulted in consent agreements with 159 residents who will repay $2.2 million.

The State Comptroller’s office launched the 90-day pilot program in Ocean County last September, three months after 26 Lakewood residents — including many members of the town’s large Orthodox Jewish community — were accused of wrongfully collecting more than $2 million in public-assistance benefits. The office announced the program’s results Tuesday.

But many residents criticized the program, claiming it allowed people to steal taxpayer money. Several residents shared outrage on social media and called for those who accepted the benefits to face prosecution.

In many cases, those charged were accused of falsely reporting or misreporting income to become eligible for assistance programs.

  2. I warned people. If they fess up to the state, the IRS will come after them, and there will be no amnesty from them. I fear for them.

  3. Frumroshyeshiva TRYING TO REITZ EVERYBODY ON A BORED BEIN HAZMANIM BACHUR GO BACK TO PEEKSKILL SOPRINGFIELD OR WHATEVER BEIS MINUS YESHIVA YOUR IN

  4. 159 out of a population of over 100,000. This shows what a tiny problem this is and not the massive numbers the Anti-Semites were claiming.

  5. Hey Joe…that was only the 159 erhliche yidden who decided it was smarter to admit their genavah and obtain amnesty rather than risk a future fraud indictment and possible jail time. It says nothing about the potentially hundreds or thousands of others who committed some type of fraud but think they are smarter than the investigators and assume they won’t get caught.

  6. Double saving for taxpayer, as 1) Money wrongly taken is returned; 2) Even more significantly:- Massive saving not jailing these people @$100,000 per prisoner per annum.

  7. Gadolhadora trying to be insightful and instead is being inciteful. Listen girl, you know nothing about that which you comment.
As Abraham Lincoln said when you remain silent people may doubt if you are a fool, but if you say something silly they will know for sure. Better to keep quiet and let people wonder if you are smart or not, rather than open your mouth and prove it.

  8. I am sure Gadolhadorah tax returns are all squeaky clean. I am sure him his wife or his kids never earned a penny off the books. I am sure the cleaning lady he hires is paid on the books and that she is not an illegal Mexican.
