Widely hailed for its advocacy efforts and the many services it provides to the yeshiva community, Agudath Israel of America’s Yeshiva Services division welcomes Rabbi Ami Bazov as its new coordinator of education affairs.
A Bayswater resident, Rabbi Bazov is a graduate of Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael of Marine Park, Touro College and Brooklyn Law School. Before coming to the Agudah, Rabbi Bazov spent several years teaching in Brooklyn yeshivos and practicing law, specializing in real estate, bankruptcy and foreclosures.
Having joined the Yeshiva Services division one month ago, Rabbi Bazov has already proven himself to be a valuable asset. He looks forward to using his collective experience in law and education in his new position which will include serving as a liaison between yeshivos and all levels of government, keeping the division’s growing network of schools apprised of relevant programs, regulations and mandates, and fielding the hundreds of calls that are received each year.
“I jumped at the chance to work for the Agudah which does so much for Klal Yisroel,” said Rabbi Bazov. “Our yeshivos keep growing and baruch Hashem, the Jewish community as a whole continues to expand, and I am very excited to be able to help the klal.”
Offering a wide range of services to yeshivos and their parent bodies, the Yeshiva Services division is an outspoken advocate that is in close contact with federal, state and local governments. Championing the rights of yeshivos in the judicial and legislative settings, Yeshiva Services has won hard fought victories that have netted yeshivos millions of dollars in funding and the department disseminates practical information to schools throughout the year through memos, workshops and webinars, keeping them abreast of the latest developments. A full day Yeshiva Expo held in October 2017, a groundbreaking project of the Yeshiva Services division, drew nearly 300 yeshiva executive directors, administrators and principals from more than 125 schools, tackling a variety of topics including parsonage, fire safety and security funding while also addressing complex and recently updated regulations and requirements.
Over the past year, Avrohom Weinstock, Yeshiva Services’ director for strategic advancement, has been instrumental in helping yeshivos realize significant savings through immunization reimbursements and the Smart Schools Bond Act. While Mr. Weinstock will be taking on other responsibilities within the organization, he will continue his efforts on those programs as well as working on the 529 savings plan campaign.
In order to best serve the needs of every child, Yeshiva Services works closely with Project LEARN which is headed by Mrs. Leah Steinberg who serves as director of special education affairs. Welcoming Rabbi Bazov to Yeshiva Services will further enable the division to continue its educational efforts, noted Mrs. Deborah Zachai, director of education affairs for the Agudah.
“Rabbi Bazov brings valuable legal, organizational and educational expertise to our division,” said Mrs. Zachai, who has relationships with yeshiva principals and administrators that span decades. “We look forward to expanding the full panoply of services that we already offer and doing everything in our power to continuing to help the yeshiva community in the months and years to come.”
