Gov. Andrew Cuomo has joked during a speech at a predominantly black New York City church that Jews lack rhythm when dancing.
The Democrat seeking a third term in office made the awkward crack Sunday at Mount Neboh Baptist Church in Harlem.
Noting he was Catholic, Cuomo said Catholics and Baptists share many of the same beliefs but Catholics “do it without the rhythm.”
He added: “But we try. We are not as without rhythm as our Jewish brothers and sisters.”
Cuomo then singled out Hank Sheinkopf, a Jewish Democratic political consultant who was moving to the music in a front pew. Cuomo referred to Sheinkopf’s movements as “ugly.”
A Cuomo spokeswoman later told the New York Post the governor was poking fun at himself and a longtime friend.

Stupid commnet politically but generally accurate….As anyone who hs been to a Litvish simcha can tell you, they are probablyly the wost in terms of coordinating feet, hands with rythmic music….chassideshe simchas are somewhat better (with a few chassidus actually really good musically and dancewise)….the best in my view are the sephardeshe yidden who have some really “cool” moves that would make Cuomo shep nachis

Cuomo’s comment is very funny. His mother was Jewish and shmad herself with her mother. I met his mother in my office when he was running for office and she spoke at my place of business. She personally told me that she was born Jewish. Once a yid always a yid. He thinks we is Christian. That is really very funny.

Have you not heard of Jews anglisising their names to sound less Jewish, like Jackson, Blackstone, Taylor and Cone. If you think those names were their original names, I can assure they were not except for Cone who just changed his spelling. Besalel, there are many Jews in Italy. LaGuardia’s mother Irene Coen was from Trieste. Eydie Gorme was born Edith Garmezano to two Jewish parents. Her father was from Sicily and her mother was from Turkey.
