VIDEO: Barkat Will Not Seek A Third Term As Mayor Of Jerusalem

(VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has officially announced he will not seek a third term in office. In the video he released, the mayor explains that 16 years ago, he made the decision to leave the private sector and attempt to save Jerusalem, the city in which he was born and raised. “During the past decade, working with many partners, first and foremost Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, we have returned Jerusalem to a path of posterity and on the correct path for the future.”

He goes on to describe the significance of the United Capital, which will remain Israeli hands forever, citing this as a major accomplishment of the State of Israel.

“I have now decided to continue serving, but on the national level, via the Likud party, with its platform that I support. My father always encouraged my brother and I to seek ways to serve the people, without asking anything in return.

In any position I undertake, I will continue serving for the minimal NIS 1 per year. I will use my talents as I did as an officer in the paratroopers, in high-tech and running the most complicated and exciting city for you,” Barkat concludes.
