Surprising many, HaGaon HaRav David Yosef Shlita, a member of the Moetzas Chachmei Torah of Shas, on Shabbos spoke out warmly in support of the chairman of the Yahadut Hatorah faction in Jerusalem, Eliezer Ruchberger, adding if he runs in the city’s mayoral race, he will back him.

Rav Yosef said, “I hope there are no recorders here for it is Shabbos. Councilman Ruchberger assists more than all others, including Sephardi councilmen”, Bechadrei Chareidim reports.

The rav is attributed to the above comments, speaking during a kiddush held in honor of the chasenah of Ruchberger’s son this week. The kiddush was held in Beit Knesset Chasdei Naftali in Har Nof.

“Rav Ruchberger is a true public servant who works with mesirus nefesh, with all his koach and he has many successes. I can state he assists all, without exception, Sephardim, Ashkenazim, everyone! I myself have been assisted many times, and he does more than all the Sephardi representatives”.

Ruchberger, who was taken by surprise, responded, “All the representatives are moser nefesh, without exception”.
