Central Election Committee to Convene to Hear Petitions

The Central Election Committee is planning to hear petitions to disqualify candidates and parties from running in the upcoming general elections. The committee will be convening on Wednesday, 6 Teves 5773.

First on the list is a petition to disqualify the Otzma Yisrael Party as well as four petitions against the Balad party. There is also a request to disqualify MK Zuabi, who took part in the Mavi Marmara terrorist flotilla.

If the committee agrees to disqualify any of the persons/parties, the request will then be heard by a nine-justice panel of the High Court of Justice.

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein on Monday afternoon 4 Teves announced he opposes disqualifying any candidate or party.

  1. Of course Zuabi should be DISqualified from serving in the government. Except in Israel that never happens, must do the make-believe fantasy of Democracy.
