Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin was the guest of honor on Tuesday night, the eve of 28 Kislev 5773, lighting the large Chabad menorah in Jerusalem’s Machane Yehuda marketplace, known more affectionately as “The Shuk”.

Rivlin, who is shomer shabbos, is always willing to participate in ceremonies involving a mitzvah when his schedule permits, and the speaker is particularly fond of Chabad for all the outreach the chassidim do, in IDF bases, elsewhere in Eretz Yisrael, and around the world.

Escorting the speaker to Machane Yehuda was Chabad shaliach Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh Ruderman.
