Ya’alon: We Mustn’t Becomes Disillusioned

Speaking to Israel Radio’s Reshet Bet on Sunday afternoon, 25 Kislev 5773, Vice Premier Moshe Ya’alon discarded the growing discussion over concerns that Israel is being “isolated in the international community”. Ya’alon, who is viewed as a prime candidate for the next defense minister, told his interviewer that at present, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is in Germany and while there are differences at present between Jerusalem and Berlin, this is not being isolated, actually far from it. “We mustn’t become disillusioned” Ya’alon stated regarding the prospect of progress in the diplomatic process with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), citing Israel remains ready and willing to resume talks without preconditions but the other side does seem to share this willingness.

Ya’alon feels that people from within Israel, including former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, are causing significant political damage with their statements, reminding us that the 2005 expulsion of Jews from Gaza did not result in peace and tranquility as Olmert and his supporters promised it would. “It blew up in our faces before this could be actualized” Ya’alon added, as he stated Olmert made the promises which were never fulfilled, in line with his irresponsible statements to the international media today.

“If one looks back 20 years, today we are significantly stronger, not just militarily, but the economy, yishuvim, high-tech, and aliyah.

Israel Radio:

What about being isolated in the international community?

Ya’alon:

The international community is not immune to events taking place in Israel today. When voices are heard from within our camp calling to make additional concessions to the PA (Palestinian Authority) it weakens our position. Everyone is speaking about being isolated… There are disagreements. Stop using the term. We are not being isolated despite current disagreements.”

  1. For most Israelis, the real source of disillusionment is that their dream of a Jewish homeland “Free” from the yoke of Torah is turning into nighmare. Base on demographics, they’ll wake up one day in the foreseeable future, and discover (“dread, horror, etc.”)a Jewish state. The efforts to break the yeshiovs under the ruse of needing yeshiva students to help kill the goyim is just a ruse – the Israelis have been quite able to schecht goyim as necessary without them — but breaking up the growing yeshiva movement is critical in preventing Israel from evolving into a Jewish state.

The zionists believed, as an article of their faith, that a secular Jewish state would be beloved by the goyim, and that the cause of anti-semitism was orthodox Jews religious beliefs, and lack of land. That core belief underlying the zionist movement hasn’t worked out. That is a factor in their disillusionment. It was a naive belief, but who are we to criticize other people’s religious belief?

In short, all that the Israelis are disillustioned with can be seen whenever they look in a mirror. It’s not something we need to worry about.
