Israel’s National Roadway Safety Association (NRSA) announced the statistics for the month of February which saw a spike in road deaths over the month. Following a continued decline in the number of deaths caused by motor vehicle accidents (MVA) in the month of January, February turned out to be a particularly bloody month resulting in 33 deaths due to road accidents. In 2017, only 25 deaths occurred due to road accidents in the same month.
Thus far, 63 people have been killed in 2018 due to MVAs compared to 65 from last year. In March thus far, three people have been killed in road accidents as the numbers continue to rise.
February sixth was the bloodiest day of the month in which no less than six people were killed in separate accidents. On February 13th, two soldiers were killed and a third died a week later from the same accident that transpired on Highway 6. The deceased were Bar Yakubian, Ashto Tespo and Shilo Siman-Tov.
In Be’er Sheva a parked truck was hit by two separate motorcyclists both of whom were killed in the accidents.
