The Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael of Degel Yisrael has convened and rendered a decision regarding the Degel HaTorah lineup for the upcoming 11 Shevat 5773 general elections. The rabbonim decided to place Bnei Brak Mayor R’ Yaakov Asher in the third slot, to replace R’ Menachem Carmel.

As was expected, HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach did not attend the meeting.

The rabbonim did not heed demands from the HaPeles faction to reinstate Carmel. As such, their decision will most likely result in the HaPeles/Yerushalmi faction running independent of Degel, which will lead to a split of votes for the chareidi tzibur in the upcoming election.
