Elder poskim in the dati leumi community have come out publicly in support of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who is facing mounting public criticism in as a result of ongoing police investigations alleging law-breaking.

HaRav Dov Lior, HaRav Tzefanya Drori, HaRav Nachum Eliezer Rabinowitz, HaRav Chaim Steiner and HaRav Gideon Pearl, have published a communiqué expressing unqualified support for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in light of his legal situation.

“We call upon the entire nation of Israel, and for each and every one of us, not to do an injustice to the Prime Minister of Israel. The public issues relating to him have not yet been clarified, as is customary in the Torah.

The rabbis, members of the Rabbanei Derech Emunah, added that

“ריבונו של עולם אשר בחר בנו מכל העמים, ועשאנו לממלכת כהנים וגוי קדוש, מצפה מאיתנו להתנהל בצורה ישרה ומלמדת זכות כלפי כל אדם, וודאי על אדם גדול העומד בראש האומה”.

The Rabbis wanted to clarify that “it is certainly very important according to the Torah that the political system is impeccable, and it is clear that whenever it does not end in the proper manner, it is forbidden to talk about the honor of the Prime Minister of Israel. The rabbis signed their letter “with the blessing of the Torah and the Shmiras HaLoshon”.
