PHOTOS: Teach PA Hosts Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai At Caskey Torah Academy

Teach PA, which advocates for greater resources in schools, hosted Pennsylvania House Speaker Mike Turzai last week at Caskey Torah Academy of Greater Philadelphia. Speaker Turzai has championed legislation critical to nonpublic school families – the event was organized by Teach PA to thank him.

“Keep doing what you’re doing,” Turzai told a classroom of students, parents, and community members. “Write letters, come to Harrisburg, have rallies, walk around and tell your stories. When it comes to education, one size doesn’t fit all, and I’ll keep fighting and working on educational opportunities for all students.”

Visits between the community and politicians are central to Teach PA, part of Teach Advocacy Network and a project of the Orthodox Union. Such visits allow legislators to see firsthand how untenable tuition costs impact children in their districts, and allow for honest conversations with leaders in the community.

“We are extremely grateful to the speaker for visiting with the students, faculty, and surrounding community of Caskey Torah Academy,” said Teach PA Director Arielle Frankston-Morris. “It’s critical that the community engage with politicians who represent them and educate them about the tuition crisis. In terms of efficient vehicles for change, a fully activated grassroots network is unmatched. We see that when Speaker Turzai and other leaders make these important visits to the community.”

Teach PA works on behalf of thousands of nonpublic school students in Pennsylvania. Teach PA advocates for programs which fund security, nursing, technology, and continued scholarship tax credits for nonpublic schools.

“Nonpublic school costs are impacting students, parents, and entire communities. Speaker Turzai has been an amazing ally in our mission to tackle the tuition crisis,” Frankston-Morris said. “On behalf of the community, we thank the speaker for his ongoing leadership.”
