KJFD is currently on the scene (10:00AM EST) at the Kiryas Yoel Yeshiva (Mesivta) at 11 Berditchev Court for a small fire with a heavy smoke condition. Additional assistance was requested to respond to the scene from Monroe FD, multiple ambulances from Hatzolah were dispatched, and the Orange County Chief Fire Coordinator arrived on the scene to assist as well.
The Kiryas Joel FD has spoken to YWN and informed us that the fire was a burning mattress located in the Yeshiva dormitory, and was quickly extinguished – but not before a heavy smoke condition traveled throughout the entire structure. KJFD is currently ventilating the Yeshiva, and thick smoke was seen pouring out of some windows.
Boruch Hashem the building was safely evacuated prior to the FD’s arrival, although two Bochrim were treated by Kiryas Yoel Hatzolah for smoke inhalation – and released in good condition.

what’s with all the fires lately? Isthere a matzah bakery in the dorm?
