Israel’s High Court of Justice on Monday, 4 Adar, heard an urgent petition submitted by the parents and family of IDF Lt. Hadar Goldin HY”D, seeking to immediately prevent the government from handing over the bodies of terrorists to their families to permit them to bury them. The court scheduled another hearing on the matter for June, adding that until the follow-up hearing, the government may not hand over the bodies of additional terrorists.
The Goldins have been waging a war against the government, as it feels the cabinet and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has betrayed them and their son. They have been filing petitions with the High Court in the hope of compelling the government to carry out its own decisions, such as eliminating any services other than the basics required by law for imprisoned Hamas terrorists. They also call for banning family visitation to Hamas terrorists in jail. They have now filed the urgent petition to stop the handover of terrorists’ bodies for burial, once again, in line with a cabinet decision.
The Goldins have repeatedly explained that they are being betrayed, as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu promised them the return of Hadar’s body and the body of Sgt. Oren Shaul will be a priority and remain at the top of the agenda in any dealings with Hamas and Gaza, yet over the past years, they have found this is nothing more than an empty promise. They continue calling to halt all privileges for imprisoned terrorists, but this too is yet to happen.
