Former Rishon Letzion, and current Sephardic Rabbi of Jerusalem Rabbi Shlomo Amar came out in public support of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanahu following the recommendations issued by the police that Netanyahu be tried for accepting bribes. According to Rabbi Amar, the populace has gained a desire to cause harm to their leaders, something – which according to him – embarrasses the country as a whole.
During a visit to Achisemach in Lod, Rabbi Amar met with Netanyahu and said: “It is a very emotional and big issue, nowadays, to honor our Prime Minister, who is doing everything he can to help the people of our country and is doing so exceptionally well. We see the results of his hard work in every area of development across the country. The country has developed a desire to harm their leaders. This is a very bad trait and embarrasses us all.”
The Prime Minister replied and said: “Not everyone has this desire.”
“I bless that, may God stand by your right side and the truth be revealed. I am certain that this will amount to nothing at all. May your enemies be vanquished before you and may you crush their altars. May you continue to do the great works that you do for all of Israel.”
