Because some website says that eating poppy seeds fore bed helps with falling asleep, it only makes sense to start making, baking and eating poppy seed hamentaschen beginning tomorrow.
Right? 😊
You see, last night I woke up at 2:40am craving the poppy seed hamentaschens that my mom and I used to make, thanks to the purple *Spice and Spirit* cookbook (the recipe with orange zest I think). So delish!
That waking up in the middle of the night means that my body is trying to tell me that it needs to consume yummy hamentaschens bursting with oozing poppy seed filling to sleep well –mamash for my briyut!
It only makes sense too; poppy seed filling is one of the major food groups!
If you agree, say YAY!
Thank YOU ☺

Opium is produced from the pod of the poppy plant that contains the seeds that fill your hamentaschen. Remember the scene in the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy and co. fall asleep in the poppy field that the Wicked Witch planted?

February 5, 2018 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #1462889LightbriteParticipantWinnieThePooh: Is it really the opiates in poppy seeds? Maybe it could be some of the minerals? Hmm… or I’m just being selectively ignorant… I almost bought poppy seeds today at the store, but held off on them 🙂
Takahmamash: Wow, thanks… I never knew that poppy seed filling had an official name 🙂

February 6, 2018 11:37 am at 11:37 am #1463181zahavasdadParticipantNot everything is a Yetza Hora and its actually not healthy to behave like that.
There is nothing wrong with a LITTLE enjoyment of things, its healthy and natural. Living a Monastical lifestyle is generally unhealthy. Its only when these things take over your life is it a problem and you become consumed by them is it a problem
February 6, 2018 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm #1463221WinnieThePoohParticipantI think the level is really too low to have any effect on you unless you ate tons of them, but who knows?
February 6, 2018 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #1463338yehudayonaParticipantAccording to the website of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, “in some case, the seeds sold for use in foods still have a significant amount of opium” on them. The amount “depends on how well the poppy seeds are cleaned and processed, which varies depending on the country the seeds are from and how and when they are harvested.” They recommend that athletes who a subject to drug tests abstain from poppy seeds for a few days before and during athletic competitions. Nevertheless, I don’t think the Russians were thrown out of the Olympics because they ate too many hamentaschen.
February 6, 2018 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #1463715DovidBTParticipantThe U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons form BP-A0291 (Furlough Application – Approval and Record) contains the following:
It has been determined that consumption of poppy seeds may cause a positive drug test which may result in disciplinary action. As a condition of my participation in community programs, I will not consume any poppy seeds or items containing poppy seeds.
This form can be viewed at the Federal Bureau of Prisons web site, bop DOT gov.

There is a difference between enjoying a treat, and indulging with no regard.
I truly appreciate you pointing out the fallacy of my thought process. Sometimes I am so stringent against eating any unhealthy or unnecessary food that I forgot that it is okay to eat something yummy, and want to eat something that does more than keep me alive.
Thank you again ☺
