Hundreds of Vehicles Damaged on Highway 446 Outside of Modi’in Illit

Israeli media outlet Kikar Shabbat recently posted a video of a police officer documenting the large potholes on Highway 446 that have caused irreparable damage to hundreds of vehicles from the Charedi city of Modi’in Illit that rely on the road to head to the city that they call home.

The road has been left to get worse in spite of the myriad of complaints issued to the organization that is charged with its upkeep.

According to the officer: “Tens of thousands of drivers need to pass along this road each morning and return each night in order to get from their city of residence to their workplaces and schools. More than a week and a half ago a report was filed with the National Roads Company of Israel (Netivei Yisrael) under whose auspices the road falls regarding a very large pothole that is very dangerous to drivers. They came and filled it in with a thin layer of tar that didn’t even last a day.”

“In all, there are at least ten extremely dangerous potholes on this stretch of highway, and that is only in what I was able to film,” the officer added. “Usually the front left wheel get punctured while driving over this pothole almost everytime.

“Police are pretty much alsways called to assist drivers to help change their tire as the road is highly trafficed especially in the morning rush hours. The nearby checkpoint also adds to the traffic causing it to be very dangerous for a driver to change their left tire and avoid getting hit by passing vehicles,” the officer stated.

The National Roads Company of Israel refrained from comment as did the city of Modi’in Illit.
