The Ministry of Transport is taking steps to reduce the involvement of bus drivers in accepting money and giving change to passengers, Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) reported. The changes will come in stages, beginning with the regulation in March 2018 that one will have to fill one’s smartcard online or at one of the machines available, but not by paying the driver as has been the case in the past. In stage two, the driver will not receive money, even for a single ride as they do today.
These measures are being taken to reduce the load on drivers and to permit them to focus on driving and not sales and making change. In addition, it should save considerable time as commuters will have to board with a charged smartcard in hand.

Ya, and mess over anyone who forgot to pre-charge. This will be just like the train- people crying, being ticketed close to 200 shekel for an honest, dumb mistake. That’s why Egged’s doing it.
It happens to be insane how much is expected to do. Giving change is a brain demanding task. And they drive a whole bus while doing it! Talk about distracted driving! Though AMAZINGLY I have never heard of a accident caused through this. They are extremely talented. Though it’s definitely distracting
I have always been amazed at how the Eged bus drivers seem to juggle driving with dealing with passengers’ payment needs. Guess it is too hard to balance for a long time with out an accident.
so does that mean that everyone now has to get a rav kav or can people still decide not to use a rav kav and pay with cash?
