Three mortar shells fired from Syrian landed in Israel’s northern region on Thursday near noontime. One of the shells landed between homes in Kibbutz Elonei HaBashan. Some of the mortars did not detonate. There were no reports of injuries.
Amir Duvdevani, a 30-year resident of the community who raises horses and has been the security officer for the past 13 years explains “we knew immediately what was happening. These are the sounds we heard in the Second Lebanon War.”
He confirmed that a rocket landed immediately adjacent to his home and Baruch Hashem there were no injuries or loss of life.
IDF commanders told the media it appears the mortar shells are part of the ongoing fighting between Syrian government and rebel forces and not an intentional attack against Israel.
Earlier in the week a number of bullets struck an IDF jeep of a battalion commander in the N. Golan Heights region, which was reportedly chalked up to another ‘stray bullet’ incident from Syria. Bullets crossed the border against on Wednesday night the eve of 23 Cheshvan in the week’s second ‘stray bullet incident’.
Golan Heights Regional Council head Eli Malka called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the government to bring an immediate end to these incidents explaining gunfire of any form over the border cannot be tolerated.
