Israel Takes Syrian Tank Violations to the United Nations

Israel earlier this week turned to the United Nations after Syrian tanks were viewed violating the ceasefire area of the Golan Heights.

“The tanks remain in this area. Just today (NOV. 6), gunfire from the Syrian side of the border struck an Israeli patrol,” Israeli UN Ambassador Ron Prosor wrote in his letter to Security Council officials.

“The international community and the Security Council should address this alarming development without delay to prevent further escalation,” he wrote.

Later in the week, a patrol jeep of a battalion commander along the northern border was hit by stray bullets from the Syrian side. Israel played down the incident, attributing it to ongoing fighting between Syrian government and rebel forces.
