Speaking with Kol Chai Radio on Wednesday morning, following the US presidential election, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Yechiel Metzger was asked to comment on the reelection of the US president.
Rabbi Metzger explained [at length and in depth] when we recite Shema we cover our eyes, for this symbolizes that we do not need to look around since we understand Hashem’s gadlus and know כל מאן דעביד רחמנא לטב עביד and therefore, if we are referring to “Hashem” which is רחמים or “Elokim”, which is דין, we know that Hashem will do that which we need and the negative we perceive is due to our limitations.
The rav concluded that he hopes that following his reelection, President Obama will make the courageous decision to release Jonathan Pollard after so many years imprisonment.

One Response
Rabbi Metzger is a smart person, I don’t believe he’s that delusional to think that Obama has ANY reason to pardon Johnathan Pollard at this time. I think someone may have asked him “now what about Pollard?” And in response he said that Hashem is in charge.
