Investigation Surrounding Shabbos Stabbing Attack in Yerushalayim


Police have obtained a gag order surrounding some of the details of the Friday night stabbing attack, which occurred on the eve of 18 Cheshvan 5773. A resident of Jerusalem’s Old City was attacked from behind as he and a friend were making their way from davening at the Kosel to Maale Zeitim for seudas shabbos. The victim got about 50 meters from the Moskowitz Building when Arabs jumped him from behind and stabbed him in the back. The victim, 34, was moderately injured. The victim was carrying a pistol but it appears he did not have an opportunity to use it since he was stabbed from behind. The attackers fled the scene.

MDA spokesman Zaki Heller explained the stab wound was quite deep. The victim was transported to the trauma unit of Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Police have determined the attack was a terror attack.

On motzei shabbos 19 Cheshvan 5773, Maale Zeitim residents held a spontaneous protest which led to a confrontation with local Arabs. The Jews tried blocking the area road. Police were on hand and two Jews were arrested.
