It is a true bracha from shamayim that the biggest Oheiv Yisroel to sit in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump, succeeded a raging Anti-Semite Barack Hussein Obama. Whereas Obama ym’s let the UN pass an anti-Israel resolution and refused to commute the sentence of Sholom Rubashkin, despite bipartisan support for Rubashkin from Congress, former US Attorney Generals and many other high officials who admitted to a miscarriage of justice, President Trump gave his very first, and thus far only, commutation to a frum Yid. While most presidents issue pardons and commutations mostly only after their last presidential election or just before leaving office, President Trump issued his less than a year into his first term. And this came just after Pres. Trump issued his Jerusalem decision. And, of course, The Donald’s long history of being supportive of frum Yidden both long before he ever ran for public office as well as since running for and assuming the office of the presidency of the United States.
Yasher Koach President Trump on behalf of all of Klal Yisroel, particularly the Torah community.

The funniest thing was all the naysayers on YWN, even after he won.

Every tear that was shed by Clinton supporters on election nite, was a source of immense rejoicing to me.
December 21, 2017 6:57 am at 6:57 am #1431167Sam2ParticipantTrump did a very good thing. But we’ve certainly had previous presidents who were bigger Ohavei Yisrael.

Not that he is mashiach, of course not. Rather hes is one of the world leaders that will usher in the final part of the days of mashiach.
December 21, 2017 7:21 am at 7:21 am #1431202Ex-CTLawyerParticipantI do not believe that commuting the sentence of a convicted felon makes Trump an Oheiv Yisroel par excellence.
It is simply a politically savy move and payback for block voting.Watch how Yidden will suffer economically under the new Trump tax laws.
How many CR readers i the northeast pay more than 10K per year in real estate taxes, how many pay state and local income tax….deductions gone
I’ve been digesting the final bill as passed and expect my Federal taxes to rise more than $20.000 per year. That’s 20K less funds available for Tzedaka.
Never mind his emasculating of the ACA and going after entitlement programs.the sheep in Black garb have been fleeced by this Charlatan and will soon see they will be freezing and hungry

Spoke to my accountant yesterday. He had the same assessment. Kudos to republican Peter king for voting against it.
And Joseph
It’s one thing to thank the President
It’s quite another to get emotionally invested in a politician . They all lie and manipulate. I’m going to save the blanket statements till after he is out of office bc maybe then the picture will be clear.December 21, 2017 7:54 am at 7:54 am #1431210🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantCT – once again it seems that your hate for trump makes it hard for you to see rationally or stay in touch with reality. You lauded the Obamacare which destroyed the ability for most of my community (and beyond) to get any health services because the plan was either a scam or they could no longer afford to take a sick kid to the doctor. I have a friend who ISNT low income who cant afford the endoscopy his doctor recommended. It goes on and on but you aren’t interested because you haven’t seen it yourself.
this line – “How many CR readers i the northeast pay more than 10K per year in real estate taxes, how many pay state and local income tax….deductions gone”
maybe i misunderstand your weeping, who’s paying more than 10K in real estate taxes? And deductions gone? only after 7.5 percent of your income if I read correctly. And frankly, the only reason so many of ended up not owing taxes was not because of those deductions, those deductions rarely exceeded the standard deductions which are now increasing.I feel sorry for your $20,000 loss….well at least I am trying to since I care about you and your pain, but you seem to be weeping for the rich under the guise of caring for the low income families without seeming to have an inkling of how their lives work.
You may have $20,000 less tzedaka to give, which is honestly an awful thing for you and the receiving charities, but some in my neck of the woods are waiting with bated breath for that extra $80 in their paycheck so they can buy some amoxicillin.
December 21, 2017 8:12 am at 8:12 am #1431219🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantI stand corrected, the standard deduction is increasing dramatically but personal exemptions are gone. Yes, that could be a hardship for some with more income
December 21, 2017 8:12 am at 8:12 am #1431215🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantand regarding the OP and thread title – this wasn’t about being an ohev yisroel, it was about NOT turning a blind eye to a trial gone bad. I don’t know that Rubashkin is innocent and letting him out for being Jewish would be just as dumb as keeping him in there for that reason. You either have fair justice system or you don’t. His prosecution was corrupt, it was proven and ignored, Trump did what Obama should have done years ago when the proof came thru.
December 21, 2017 8:19 am at 8:19 am #1431211🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantby the way, the aguda put out a statement with a nice explaination of where the tax bill hurts and helps.
December 21, 2017 8:41 am at 8:41 am #1431221TheGoqParticipantVery proud and thankful for this president.
December 21, 2017 9:16 am at 9:16 am #1431252Avi KParticipantAs usual it depends on whose ox is gored. Those who are fleecing the taxpayers with “entitlement” (who says that they are entitled anyway) will lose as will those living in huge estates and consequently pay high property taxes. Rubashkin, who received an inordinately stiff sentence (he was not pardoned but his sentence was commuted) due to the judicial and prosecutorial misconduct gains. Hopefully Pollard who was sentenced so severely due to Cap Weinberger’s lies and whose religious rights continue to be violated will be next. Israel is, of course, the big winner. I think that this makes him am ohev Yisrael (son of an ohev Yisrael). MAGA

but some in my neck of the woods are waiting with bated breath for that extra $80 in their paycheck so they can buy some amoxicillin.
Anyone paying $80 for amoxicillin is getting fleeced and the pharmacy may be doing something illegal. Even without insurance, a typical course of amoxicillin should cost around $15.
That said, I agree with you that Obamacare has not been all positive. My insurance premiums have gone up quite a bit, and prescription coverage has become poorer – though some of that may be because the cost of some drugs has skyrocketed. There are quite a few quirks and inconsistencies in the law; for example, the main driver for keeping insurance prices down in Obamacare is an influx of young, healthy policyholders via the mandate, but this influx is limited by the law itself, because it allows children to stay on their parents’ plans until age 26. Given the benefits of the law, however, I favor well thought out adjustments and modifications rather than repeal. Just axing the mandate will do nothing but make things worse.
December 21, 2017 11:08 am at 11:08 am #1431319akupermaParticipantTo anyone complaining about the new tax law: You should instead be thanking Ha-Shem that you are rich enough to be paying higher taxes under the law. The tax reform (for individuals, I’m not talking about the different question of how corporations are taxed) was designed to benefit the poor and middle classes – families with kids, the 2/3 of the population who don’t have enough to itemize (i.e. who don’t earn enough to be paying $24K in state and local taxes, and mortgage interest).
December 21, 2017 12:09 pm at 12:09 pm #1431392midwesternerParticipantGlad to hear the CTL gives every single penny of expendable income to tzedaka. Dollar for dollar, what the IRS gets, tzedakos won’t. However, if he is in such a bracket that the deductions will cost him 20K, he will surely save a chunk on the drop in the marginal rates at the upper end.
On a slightly lower scale that many more of us are at, please note: Personal deductions gone. So a (hypothetical) family with 8 kids (and our community has a lot of those) will now have to pay tax on 41,500 more in income. Maybe there will be a slightly better bracket, and standard deductions goes up (If you pay a mortgage and give maser, that won’t help you much either), that is still thousands more in tax expense than before. The average baal mishpacha of a decent size making between 80-120K, not the rich of our world by any standards, are gonna get socked like you wouldn’t believe.

The states that have the most real estate taxes are because of the democrats. All democrats know is to spend other peoples’ money. But it’s funny how you blame Trump.December 21, 2017 1:52 pm at 1:52 pm #1431458GadolhadorahParticipantGranting clemency to SMR was the right thing to do. However, extrapolating from that decision that DJT is a mega “oheiv yisroel” is mega-meshugaas. Until the Trumpkopf stops retweeting anti-Semitic postings and praising the racist anti-semites who marched in Charlottsville as “really fine people”, I’ll continue to view him as an an unprincipled opportunist who would throw us under the bus (and back up several times) if it served his purposes.

I live in a small town in Fairfield County, CT…NOT the Gold Coast Greenwich/Stamford. A typical 4 BR Colonial on 3/4 acre (minimum zoning) is taxed at about $13,000. We also pay property taxes on automobiles at the same mil rate in CT, so a $30,000 assessed value car pays local property tax in excess of $1,000 per year. Add 5-6% State Income Tax and that’s a lot of lost deductions on a Federal return. As for the Affordable Care Act (The Federal edition of Romneycare) it has saved me untold thousands of dollars in the past 4 years.
I did not have to change one doctor, in fact many more doctors and facilities are available to me than before with the same insurance company and same level of plan.
The key is that every state has a different system and the Connecticut Health Care Exchange works well.December 21, 2017 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #1432225Ex-CTLawyerParticipant@Health
Property Tax is a function of local government, NOT State.
I’ve owned my home for 28 years. The taxes have doubled in the past 8 years under a Republican Town Government: First Selectman, Town Council and Board of Finance.
The Sate Income Tax was instituted by a NON-Democrat Governor (former Republican elected on a 3rd Party line) Lowell Weicker and the rates raises repeatedly under 12 years of Republican Governors, the Convict John Rowland and his sidekick Mary Jodi Rell.As I have repeatedly stated, I am socially Liberal BUT FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE. I served on our Town Council for 6 years and opposed most budget increases and tax increases. I favored spending smarter, not spending more.
December 21, 2017 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm #1432534ny100kParticipantFor those paying above 10k on a moderate home, much of the bill is school tax and not property tax, so it will not change anything under the new rules.
December 21, 2017 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm #1432572Takes2-2tangoParticipantWill u guys still be calling him an אוהב ישראל after his “NEW” tax bill? It time to read up on it on how ,its going to affect lots of yidden.
December 21, 2017 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #1432695Rebbe YidParticipantHow many people who are paying geshvolineh state and local taxes are getting much of a deduction as it is, given that they’re subject to AMT? And why not kvetch to Cuomo etc for the high taxes, instead of to GOP who’s stopping other states from having to subside our state tax raises by giving us a federal refund for them?
I wonder what Satmar and Satmar think of Trump’s pardoning of Rubashkin, probably they still think he’s a soinei yisroel for recognizing Jerusalem. and have confirmed for themselves how right they were to vote for Hillary.
December 21, 2017 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #1433187JosephParticipantThe new tax law lowers taxes for virtually everyone making less than $200,000 a year. The mortgage interest change only lowers it from $1M to $750k, and it only makes the change for new home purchases. The tax law is a great thing for frum families and all middle class Americans.
December 21, 2017 10:12 pm at 10:12 pm #1433524👑RebYidd23ParticipantJust goes to show how much influence the president’s family can have over his pardons and commutations.
December 21, 2017 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #1433522lesschumrasParticipantCT, you truly live in an alternative universe. Many people had to pay significantly more for less coverage and they couldn’t keep their doctor. 13 million people aren’t losing coverage, they simply are no longer being forced to to buy expensive coverage or pay a hefty fine. As week speak, ATT, Comcast, Wells Fargo and other major corporations have announced $1000 bonuses to 300,000 employees as a direct result of the corporate tax cut. Stop drinking the Schumer Pelosi koolaid
December 22, 2017 8:05 am at 8:05 am #1433546Ex-CTLawyerParticipant@Lesschumras
I don’t live in an alternative universe, I live in the land of the CT Yankee and some things are done better here.
Our Health Exchange works well.
My health insurance before the ACA was provided by Connecticare, they are still my insurance carrier. Before the ACA I was only able to use hospitals affiliated with Yale in southern CT, now they must cover every hospital in the state. My opthomologist did not previously accept this carrier, now he does. my monthly premiums went down, as did not co-pays.
I have one sibling who lives in NY, her coverage is worse and more expensive under ACA.
We are all self employed and that group seems to benefit most under the plans.
@ny100k
School tax does not exist in CT, it is part of town/city budgets and included in the total property tax. I own 2 houses next to each other (one was my late MIL’s) my local property tax bill is 18K for one and 13K for the other. I pay 6% State Income Tax rate and have no dependents to deduct. I am not subject to AMT.We are seriously considering advancing our retirement, selling our property and moving. I have one more year before we avail ourselves of Medicare
December 22, 2017 8:06 am at 8:06 am #1433547mentsch1ParticipantThe comments about real estate taxes confuse me. Everyone I know in the five towns and Monsey pay more than 10k a year real estate taxes. I know people in monsey paying 15+ on modest homes. In lakewood it is possible to pay less then 10 k but it’s getting harder to find. So basically all frum communities in the Tristate area will be affected, so why are Health and others implying this only affects the rich?
Ct
In NYC At the moment I’m paying 27k a year for health ins. That’s a huge increase since Obamacare. I still have an 8k deductible. So my health ins costs are actually 30-35 k a year. Pretty insane.December 22, 2017 8:08 am at 8:08 am #1433549mentsch1ParticipantAkuperma
I don’t know your personal situation. But your assessment seems way off. I make enough to itemize, and everyone assumes bc of my profession that I must be rich. But the reality is if you have a large family the tuition bill alone can be 50+ a year. (I know people paying way more) Health ins 35k a year . Camps 15-20 k. Being makpid n maaser 15-20ka year . That’s 100k min bf everyday expenses ! Even with a modest home, car etc you need 150-200 k a year just to stay in the black. Forget about putting money away for retirement.December 22, 2017 8:31 am at 8:31 am #1433573Avi KParticipantCTL, I do not understand how a frum Jew can be a social liberal. Being a scial liberal means supporting toeva “marriage”, forcing bakers to bake cakes congratulating them, banishing religion from public life even if it a general monotheistic statement, “no” to school chocie legislation, etc. I do hope, however, that you follow other Americans into retirement in EY soon.
Mentsch, maybe you should not be makpid on maaser kesafim. According to some opinions it is only middat chassidut. Even according to the machmirs it only applies to income after expenses.

Lol, that’s the richest area in the entire country. You think we were all born yesterday and are going to eat this up and think you’re a poor little lad with tattered pants worried that Trump is going to take away his money to buy a can of beans?
I admire that you’re worried about how it will affect tzdekeh, but if you earn enough to give 20K per year to tzdekeh, you’re doing alright. If you earn enough that a change in the tax system causes a 20K swing in what you can give, you’re really REALLY doing alright. You express left-wing views on other threads, yet now that you’re observing a case of the low earners getting tax breaks, and the wealthy (you) getting tax increases, it’s all Armageddon.

Not one word about former Governor Weicker in my post is untrue. He left the Republican Party and ran on the “A Connecticut Party’ line. He was not a registered Democrat. The northeast has a tradition of Liberal Republicans…it was not always CONSERVATIVE PARTY.

From WikiPedia:
“Breitbart News was described by the Anti-Defamation League as “the premier website of the alt-right” representing “white nationalists and unabashed anti-Semites and racists.”[69] The Zionist Organization of America rejected accusations of anti-semitism, saying that Breitbart News instead “bravely fights against anti-Semitism” and called for the ADL to apologize.[70][71] An article in Jewish Daily Forward argued that Bannon and Andrew Breitbart are anti-Semitic.[72] An article by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach in The Hill disputed the allegations, arguing that Breitbart defends Israel against antisemitism.[73] Alexander Marlow denies that Breitbart is a “hate-site”, stating “that we’re consistently called anti-Semitic despite the fact that we are overwhelmingly staffed with Jews and are pro-Israel and pro-Jewish. That is fake news”February 26, 2018 6:23 pm at 6:23 pm #1477756keithParticipantI’m a Californian and my taxes are supposed to go up under this. With that said, CTLawyer, don’t you think it is unfair that state taxes are deductible from federal taxes? That is, if you live in a state that chooses high taxes, why should a state that chooses lower taxes have to subsidize your government’s profligate spending? If one state chooses to be more prudent or more conservative with its finances, why should they have to subsidize a spendthrift state like my own?
Next, over 2/3 of people claim the general deduction and do not itemize. For them their taxes will go down. For the wealthy – particularly in high tax states and despite what many liberals say – their taxes will go up.
I think ALL our taxes should go down. I think our governments’ expenditures are about 1/3 waste, 1/3 corruption, and 1/3 efficient use of taxpayer dollars. We do not have a revenue problem. Government revenues go up year after year. We have a spending problem. EVERYONE’S taxes should be lower. And our government should learn to provide essential services and waste less money.
