Speaking with the Knesset Channel on Sunday, 22 Kislev, MK Yisrael Eichler explained he feels this week will be a decisive one for the coalition, adding he is wearing his “political analyst” cap for the interview. He believes by week’s end we are likely to know if the coalition will continue functioning or early elections are on the horizon.
Eichler begins by explaining if the coalition is deadlocked, no longer capable of passing legislation, then the option remains to head for the election polls. He does not feel elections are in Am Yisrael’s interest, adding the declaration made by US President Trump does serve those seeking early elections.
Eichler speaks of the days during the tenure of Menachem Begin and the possible need for “immunity”, preventing police from questioning the coalition chairman during a plenum session. “There has always been corruption and there always will be” he stated with certainty, and the questioning of the coalition chairman if fine, but the timing was off – during a plenum session.
Eichler returns to a quote he made in a recent interview, citing how Chaim Nachman Bialik was a big supporter of the state observing Shabbos and the importance of Shabbos to the Jewish nation.
