To prevent most cardiac problems, e/o should monitor their lipid levels on a yearly basis!

December 11, 2017 1:11 pm at 1:11 pm #1424376HealthParticipantDoes anyone in the CR get yearly lipid testing?
December 11, 2017 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm #1424418ubiquitinParticipantâeveryoneâ ?
Do you have a source for that?
December 11, 2017 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #1424515HealthParticipantUbiq -ââeveryoneâ ? Do you have a source for that?â
From labtestsonline:
âIn an effort to get an earlier start on cardiovascular prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a new guideline in 2011 that included the recommendation that children get routine screening with tests for lipids, including cholesterol. ââTo prevent most cardiac problems, e/o should monitor their lipid levels on a yearly basis.â
Only if the first time it was elevated./December 11, 2017 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #1424543ubiquitinParticipantInteresting thanks for sharing
though the USPSTF grades the evidence as insufficient
And certainly as yo u point out âOnly if the first time it was elevated.â In other words not Everyone.Though even for Adults With no risk factors, there is no proven benefit in screening Males prior to age 35 and females prior to age 45.

Look youâre confusing the lay people here!
Most societies say you should start screening at 20 y/o!
Iâll name them:
âAmerican College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association(AHA)
National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE)
National Lipid Association (NLA}âDecember 12, 2017 9:00 am at 9:00 am #1424815ubiquitinParticipantI havent checked most societies guidelines
The USPSTf includes all the socities you mention in their evaluation(as an aisde for example the ACC doesnt recommend screening over age 75 so still not âeveryoneâ)
bottom line get medical advice from your doctor not the internet
December 12, 2017 10:38 am at 10:38 am #1424926HealthParticipantUbiq -âhavent checked most societies guidelinesâ
Thatâs Not my problem!
âThe USPSTf includes all the socities you mention in their evaluationâ
Most donât agree with the USPSTF.
â(as an aisde for example the ACC doesnt recommend screening over age 75 so still not âeveryoneâ)â
There are others that say into the 80âs.
But when s/o uses the word âEveryoneâ, it doesnât mean 100%!âbottom line get medical advice from your doctor not the internetâ
NOT TRUE!
From NIH research:
â53.5% (274) stated that they used the Internet for medical information.âDecember 12, 2017 12:12 pm at 12:12 pm #1425052ubiquitinParticipantâThatâs Not my problem!â
Certianly not. sorry if I implied otherwiseâMost donât agree with the USPSTF.â
sure particularly labcorp and pfizer. Though that doesnt mean it is whats best for the patient.âThere are others that say into the 80âs.â
People say all sorts of things. But without evidence who cares
âBut when s/o uses the word âEveryoneâ, it doesnât mean 100%!â
Great! so not âEveryoneâ Im glad we agree
âNOT TRUE!
From NIH research:
â53.5% (274) stated that they used the Internet for medical information.ââthat in no way contradicts what I said. Just beacuse people do it doestn mean it isa good idea. Though in this case the risks are small.
ASnd in general I didnt mean to complelty ignore the internet. The internet is invaluable . Just suggesting gettign advice from a medical provider.(If we just relied on the internet I wouldnât know to treat accident victims differently depending on how many cars were involved. That isnt to be found on the internet at all. We need dedicated health professionals like you to educate the masses)

When I wrote Most I was referring to these:
âAmerican College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association(AHA)
National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE)
National Lipid Association (NLA}â
Not Labcorp or Pfizer!âJust beacuse people do it doestn mean it isa good idea.â
Thatâs your opinion.
From the same NIH article:
âSixty percent felt that the information on the Internet was the âsame asâ or âbetter thanâ information from their doctors.âDecember 12, 2017 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #1426212ubiquitinParticipantâWhen I wrote Most I was referring to these⌠American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE)â
Then you are wrong again
this is from the AACE 2017 guidline:
âEvaluate all adults 20 years of age or older for dyslipidemia every 5 years as part of a global risk assessmentâ
âScreen adolescents older than 16 years every 5 years or more frequently if they have ASCVD risk factors, have overweight or obesity, have other elements of the insulin resistance syndrome, or have a family history of premature ASCVD â
Clearly they do not reccoemnd for âEveryoneâ nor âon a yearly basisââThatâs your opinion.â
Obviously. thats why I wrote it.From the same NIH article:
âSixty percent felt that the information on the Internet was the âsame asâ or âbetter thanâ information from their doctors.ââStill not at all disagreeing with anything Ive said. Yes I know people do it. Yes I know that people fel the information is better than received from doctors. (again obviously, why would they do it if they thought it was worse information)
That just doesnt make it trueDecember 12, 2017 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #1426222HealthParticipantUbiq -âClearly they do not reccoemnd for âEveryoneâ nor âon a yearly basisâ
I guess you Missed my previous post:
ââTo prevent most cardiac problems, e/o should monitor their lipid levels on a yearly basis.â
âOnly if the first time it was elevatedâ
Maybe you need an eye doc?!?If you have an elevated level â ask your PCP. Because some will recommend earlier than a year for a recheck.

December 13, 2017 12:03 am at 12:03 am #1426283147ParticipantThe only âpreventionâ on my mind currently is preventing the next terrorist attack on the subway, and the next system wide delay on mass transit.
