Newark Airport Thieves Stealing Luxury Cars

A cadre of thieves is stealing luxury cars from Newark Airport when the owners leave the keys in the ignition while picking up or dropping off their family and friends, according to a published report.

The crew has stolen more than 10 vehicles in the last month or so, according to The New York Post. Police are investigating if the thieves are driving the stolen cars to Port Newark to be shipped overseas.

A 63-year-old Range Rover driver is among the car theft victims, the Post said. The man picked his wife up at the airport Oct. 10 and left the keys in the ignition with the engine running when he went to load her baggage in the trunk. As he was shutting the hatch, a thief leaped into the driver’s seat and sped off.

The same suspect is believed to have stolen a retired police officer’s car earlier that day, the Post said.

In some cases, the thieves have also made off with thousands of dollars in valuables within the car.
