Kellogg Co Recalls Cereal on Possible Metal Contamination

Kellogg Co. (K) is recalling millions of boxes of its popular Mini-Wheats cereal due to possible contamination by pieces of metal mesh.

Kellogg, in statement published Wednesday by the Food and Drug Administration, said it is recalling its Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite-Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size cereals that were distributed to stores nationwide.

The Michigan company blamed the contamination on “a faulty manufacturing part.”

No injuries have been reported, said Kellogg spokeswoman Kris Charles.

About 2.8 million packages of the Mini-Wheats cereal are being recalled, Ms. Charles said, and the company is working with retailers to pull them off store shelves.

All of the retailers have been contacted about the recall, she said, and customers with questions about boxes of the cereal they purchased are advised to call Kellogg for guidance.

Kellogg said in a separate company news statement released Wednesday that it expects the recall to cost the company $20 million to $30 million. Shares of Kellogg closed down 0.29% at $51.43 each.

  1. It’s interesting that Frosted Mini-Wheats and the vast majority of recalls I see are NON-Kosher products.

I find it misleading though to put this article up on YWN giving the impression we’re dealing with a Kosher product…

  2. Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite-Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size cereals are some of the few Kellogg cereals that do not have a ‘K’ on the boxes and therefore are not certified kosher.
