Rabbi of ‘Ground Zero Synagogue’ Dies

The rabbi of a house of worship known as “the ground zero synagogue” has died.

The Wall Street Synagogue said in a brief statement that Rabbi Meyer Hager died on Sunday at New York University Medical Center.

His age and cause of death were not given.

A funeral will be held at the Beekman Street synagogue Wednesday afternoon.

Hager served at the synagogue for more than 50 years.

The synagogue is next to Engine Six, which lost four firefighters at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

  1. I’ve davined mincha/maariv at the Wall Street Synagogue for some years and I’ve never once heard it referred to as the “Ground Zero Synogogue”.
