According to Haaretz, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger has called to build a state for Gaza Arabs in the Sinai Peninsula. “We are now in a generation where you can take a desert and build a city,” Rabbi Metzger explained. “This will be a solution for the poor people—they will have a nice country, and we shall have our country and we shall live in peace.”
Rabbi Metzger said that Muslims were welcome to stay in Israel and even to worship in Jerusalem, as long as they refrained from violence. He said that Muslims did not have a connection to Jerusalem, as they pray facing Mecca, with their backs to the city. “You have another place, Mecca and Medina,” he told Muslims. “You don’t need a third place.”

There’s nothing an angry Muslim hates more than to hear a Rabbi, the Chief Rabbi no less, preach to him about what Islam says.
That was a very stupid thing to say publicly and will no doubt earn HaRav Metzger some serious backlash in the press.
AMEN!!! First good idea that I’ve heard this month.
To GS:
Being timid never got us anywhere. If more people would speak up and not be afraid to say the truth, it might help. Why shouldn’t we tell the Muslims that they have nothing to do with Yerusholayim, and Hashem gave it Benei Yisroel. This should be repeated over and over until it comes out of their ears. Isn’t this the reason the Torah starts with Beraishis, and not Hachodesh Hazeh Lochem. Nothing to ba ashaimed of and let them all Plotz.
Shalom,
Good idea. In fact lets just build a giant helicopter, pick up every arab in gaza and the west bank and drop them all over Syria, Jordan etc. No, wait – on second thought just drop them in the sea.
this is the first political coment I heard in a long time that is simple & true & there is nothing to deny..

WRONG!!! we should tell them what we REALLY think, and this Rabbi did just that.
Illini07: Your twisted way of thinking is what gets us in trouble every time. Yes we are in golus, but do we have to say lies or twist the truth so the gentiles (Muslim or not) be our friends? Did it ever help us??? Never!!! It never helped anyone, they just become bolder.
What he said is 100% true, the main place they warship is Mecca, Jerusalem became holly to them because of our temples (if we had not had a temple there, they would never have gone to that mountain, Muhammad is not from Jerusalem, nor did he care about It. they know full well that Jerusalem is ours.
Do you really believe they think we have nothing to do with Yerusholayim (because they said so)? Don’t they say that WW2 never happened”, do you really believe that they truly believe so? If yes you’re a very naive person (to say the least).
Yerushalayim is mentioned many times in TaNach and it is a historical fact that the Arabs had absolutely no interest in Yerushalayim before the Zionists became interested in it.

I apologize if you took it personally, I did not mean to hurt you or put YOU down, having said that, I still strongly disagree with your way of thinking (and I do put it down, because it’s destructive, history has proven it time after time).
The fact that you think or argue that Muslims have some type of right or even argument for Yerusholayim (even in your heart you disagree with them, but you still feel that there is an argument here, that is a catastrophe.
Hashem gave it to us period, NO IFS AND BUTS!!!! They know it and we sure should know it, the fact that we were kicked out by Hashem, which by the way was warned by our Nevi’im beforehand that if we don’t repent we will be kicked out…. the same Nevi’im said that Hashem will bring us back.
Hashem gave it to us as a נחלה which is something that’s forever (look in Rashi this weeks Parsha Parshas Mishpatim פסוק ב the first Rashi brings down that when its says the word והתנחלתם it means forever.) every one knows this.
It’s only our weakness that in bolds them to deny our right to that holy place, we argue with them as if they have any argument. So does it really matter if they pray towards Jerusalem or towards Mecca? NO!!!
I heard that they pray towards Mecca, if you heard that they pray towards Jerusalem so be it, but its irrelevant, because its 100% ours, and we should not even argue in a logical forum about that fact, (it’s the same (or should be the same) if one says it is night when it is clearly in middle of the day, is any one going to argue with that person and bring him proof that, no it really is day??? I don’t think so)
Look in Derash Moshe Parshas Vayigash on the פרק מד פסוק כד you will see a beautiful explanation on how one is to argue with something that is so clearly (it’s not by using the plain old logical argument) the same is in our situation with Jerusalem, The Temple mound and the whole Eretz Yisroel.
Again I apologize to you I Chas V’sholom mean anything bad for you, I only wish you the best.
Charliehall,
Caliph Omar captured the city for political reasons not religious ones and the arab majority was simply because hardly any Jews or Christians lived there. The fact remains that the arabs were not interested in Jerusalem for ideological reasons until they realized it would help their cause against Zionism.
That is the best statement I ever heard in my life. come on lets start making it happen
