Many Sukkos Destroyed by Rains on 1st Night Yomtov

The unseasonable inclement weather that coincided with the first night of Sukkos in Eretz Yisrael led to the destruction of many sukkas, which are not built to withstand strong winds and thundershowers, brief as they may have been.

Many sukkas were knocked down, in total or part, while others were simply blown away by strong wind gusts. One sukka in Modi’in went up in flames. No injuries were reported.

Ichud Hatzalah reports that in Bnei Brak, a stone from a building on Abarbanel Street dislodged and struck a male in his 50s in his head and miraculously, his injuries were described as “light-to-moderate”.

A number of trees were downed in different areas as well, resulting in local power outages. Rainfall was reported in many communities over yomtov, including Cholon, Bat Yam, Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak and Tel Aviv.

Power outages were reported in I’ron, Kfar Saba, Kiryat Ata, Nes Tziona, Sdei Warburg, and Moshav Yigal. Many trees were downed in northern areas.
