Erev Rosh Hashanah marked the first yahrzeit of the Ungvar Rebbe, Rav Menashe Klein ZT”L.
A special Shabbos Hisachdus was held in the main beis medrash followed by the yahrzeit on Sunday, erev Rosh Hashanah. Chassidim were wondering how his son, the Rebbe Shlita, would be able to get to the ancient Beis Hakvaros in Tzfas and make it back to Yerushalayim in time for yomtov.
An idea was put forward and accepted, by which the rebbe would fly to Tzfas in a helicopter to be mispallel at the tziyun on the yahrzeit and get back to Yerushalayim in time to prepare for yomtov.
Chassidim report the rebbe was back and forth from the tziyun in Tzfas and back in the beis medrash in less than two hours.

The Rebbe’s death was a result of a botched operation in the hospital he was at.
On the one hand, you admire the respect shown by the son for the the Rav, Z’tl. On the other hand, you wonder about the amount of money used to charter a helicopter to fly to the kever when those same funds could have fed several families for a year’s yom tovim and the Rav could have said kaddish at his beis medrash on the day of the yarhtzeit and visited the tziyun motzi yom tov. We read these stories all the time of the great sums of money wasted flying rabbonim and their gabboim from EY to New York in first class so they can beg for tzadakah for their mosdos in EY, chartering planes on cloudy days so the rav can bench lavanah and be certain of seeing the new moon, renting fancy carriages with horses to be mesameach chasson v’kallah when they come from chassuveh families, etc.
Wow! Amazing! Thanx for sharing this uplifting story! What a chiddush! Using modern transportation! Unbelievable!
At a cost of how $much!?
He was a Rav in a Kihilah Before he was Nifter. And Now that he his not with us anymore he is a Rebbe?
It was a corporate helicopter owned by a wealthy business owner close to the Rov, who loaned it for this purpose all at his cost. (His direct costs only were the fuel and the several hours for the politics time — all of which the businessman paid for himself.)
