Romney To Receive Intelligence Briefings Starting Next Week

Mitt Romney will begin receiving intelligence briefings next week, his campaign said on Thursday.

Romney and vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan had not begun receiving intelligence briefings similar to those the president and vice president receives —a courtesy usually extended the opposing party’s nominees once they are formally nominated.

A spokesperson for Romney said on Thursday that they had been in the process of arranging the briefings over the last few weeks and that Romney and Ryan would begin receiving them Monday.

“For the last several weeks, the Romney campaign has been in touch with the intelligence community to arrange intelligence briefings for Gov. Romney and Rep. Ryan, consistent with tradition,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in an email to The Hill. “They will begin next week and, beyond that, we will have no further comment.”

The statement by the Romney campaign comes during a week where foreign policy has been the trending topic of the presidential campaign.

  1. Given the way politicians have been acting lately, including Mr. Obama, why not just post the briefings on the internet so no one will have to leak anything.
