Jerusalem Minimarket Fined for Price Gouging

Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court Judge Dov Pollack fined the owners of the Sinai minimarket in Givat Shaul for price gouging, for exceeding the permitted price limit on state-governed items. The store will have to pay 7,500 NIS for the greedy pricing after the Ministry of Industry & Trade filled charges against the owners.

Inspectors explained to the court they visited on two occasions, with a month between the visits, yet the price gouging continued on two staple items, a liter of milk and a dozen eggs. The inspectors told the court the defendant was guilty of price gouging five years earlier as well.

The owners tried to blame the shelf stocking personnel, but the court did not accept their claim as a valid defense. The court added that if apprehended repeating the offence in the next two years, a automatic 5,000 NIS will be levied against them, without a hearing.

  2. Yes he is expensive, but you cant deny that you get a great service with a smile. I have always bought milk and a doz’ eggs there at 5 and 12 shekel respectively. I didnt think that was overpriced. What is it supposed to be? They have one worker there who is friendly and minds his own business and until today did not even know he was arab.
