Key rabbis and lay leaders of the Sephardic Jewish community including the Sephardic Community Federation announced their support of Kalman Yeger as the most qualified candidate to replace Greenfield in the City Council. Greenfield announced this summer that he would not be seeking re-election and instead will assume the leadership of New York’s largest Jewish charity.
“We fully support and endorse Kalman because we know he will be responsive to the needs of the community, and be an outstanding advocate for us in City Hall,” said Sam Sutton, a past president of Sephardic Bikur Holim and current President of the Sephardic Community Federation (SCF). Ronald Tawil, Co-Chairman of the Zoning Committee of Community Board 15 and SCF Co-Chairman, has worked alongside Kalman for over a decade on various issues affecting the community. “Kalman Yeger has made a commitment to work with our community and fight on its behalf. He is exceptionally bright, and hard working. I know that Kalman Yeger has the experience to get things done for this district,” said Tawil.
Kalman Yeger received berachot from Rosh Yeshivas Ateret Torah, Harav Yosef Harari-Raful, Chief Rabbi of Ahava v’Ahva Rabbi Shimon Alouf and renowned Sephardic Jewish leader and orator Rabbi Eli Mansour among many other prominent rabbis including Rabbi Joseph Beyda and Rabbi Raymond Harari.
Yeger also has the support of lay and rabbinical leaders of Agudath Israel, Bobov, Satmar, Belz and Ger. The endorsements from the Sephardic Jewish leaders round out his support from every major Jewish religious denomination in Brooklyn.
“The reason that the frum community’s leadership is supporting Kalman Yeger is because, like me, they have worked with him for years and know his track record of successfully fighting for the community.” said Councilman David Greenfield. “As we face numerous challenges ranging from ant-semitism to regulation of our yeshiva curriculum, we need someone with the experience, integrity and track record of results. That person is Kalman Yeger. Join me and our leading Rabbanim and askanim in voting for Kalman Yeger on Tuesday.”
Klaman Yeger is a graduate of Touro College and New York Law School, where he was accepted with the distinction of a Dean Scholar. He is a husband, father and yeshiva tuition paying parent. For the last seventeen years, Yeger has served as a volunteer member of New York City”s Community Board 14 where he has focused on improving the quality of life of Brooklyn’s residents.
