Serious crisis, compared to what. Compared to tuition (okay not really). Compared to medical conditions related to being overweight (probably affect most people by middle age). On the other hand, drugs are probably a bigger problem for American Jews than fear of pogroms, anti-Semitism, people starving due to lack of food, and all sorts of problems that were once a big concern of Jews. It is a measure of our high quality of life that abuse of prescription drugs is now a problem. Our ancestors (for whom pain relief was limited to alcohol) would envy us and same somthing like “you should have such a problem?”.
