American Military Ready for Assault Against Iran

Needless to say the possibility of an Israeli strike against Iran was discussed during last week’s visit to Israel by US Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral James Winnefeld. During the senior military commander’s 48-hour visit, Winnefeld met with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, the deputy chief of staff and other senior officials.

According to a Yediot Achronot report, Winnefeld was sent to persuade Israel to abandon any planned unilateral military strike against Iran, referring to an operation without prior notification to the White House.

The Americans have stepped-up their naval presence in the Persian Gulf by adding a third aircraft carrier. Officials in Israel view this as a clear signal that the US is prepared to act on a moment’s notice against Iran.

In his remarks pertaining to the Winnefeld visit, Defense Minister Ehud Barak explained last week that one should not be misled regarding America’s level of preparedness to act against Iran.

Some interpret Barak’s remarks and the admiral’s visit as signaling a change regarding the possibility of Israel acting without American involvement.

  1. Ready for a one-time air strike?

Ready for the danger that it will unite the Islamic world, including countries such as Pakistan (which is nuclear) and the countries of the Persian Gulf (whose leaders hate the Iranians, but whose people will be sufficiently outraged that it will force the leaders to become hostile to the US over the matter)????

The US is in no financial position to undertake a new and larger war. The country is very disunited.

This might prove to be a very bad idea.
