Today’s New York Daily News slammed Yoni Hikind, the son of Assemblyman Dov Hikind, for his lack of knowledge regarding even the most basic of issues relating to New York City government. After the Daily News interviewed Yoni they came to the conclusion that Assemblyman Hikind’s support for his son Yoni is “rotten nepotisim” and they went on the state that Yoni could not asnwer simple questions and was “way, way, way out of his depth.” They urged all voters to vote for “pragmatic” Kalman Yeger for City Council in Tuesday’s race to replace Councilman David Greenfield.
Yeger is supported by Councilman David Greenfield and the leading rabbonim, askonim and mosdos torah.
Here’s the relevant portion of the New York Daily News editorial in today’s newspaper.
“Yoni Hikind, running on the “Our Neighborhood” party line, is Yeger’s opposition. Hikind is the son of Assemblyman Dov Hikind; Dov poured government money into a group that kept Yoni employed as a youth counselor.
And that’s not even what disqualifies Yoni. The guy is way, way, way out of his depth.
In an interview with the Daily News Editorial Board, the social worker by trade whiffed at at softball question about the mayor’s ThriveNYC mental health program. (“I don’t know. How do you think we’re doing?”)
Asked how he’d handle a swelling city budget, he said: “I’m not in a position to make that evaluation right now.” Asked why he objects to a constitutional convention, he replied: “It’s about who gets appointed.” (Delegates would be elected.)
Pragmatic, with-it Kalman Yeger is miles better. Vote for him.”

daily news is a garbage liberal paper
Kalman got his dem, position also due to being an insider. If daily news supports kalman, I’ll vote yoni.
looking in the ads in the Hamodia with Yaeger Vs. Hikind I can tell that hikind has no qualifications
No reports here on Yoni’s endorsements? This is unfair politicking by a site that should be broadcasting news.
The Daily News put it right on target — “The guy is way, way, way out of his depth.” There’s nothing to talk about. It’ll be a sad day for the 44th District if Yoni H. gets in.
Yoni i cannot predict who will win but my Family is giving you 7 Votes….Hatzlocho
Seems it all boils down to “Sheker vs Shl’mazal”.
The key words in the Daily News article are “rotten nepotism”. That is exactly on the button. Little boy Yoni is a nobody thinking he can wing his way in on Daddy’s coattails. And what has Daddy really done for anyone except himself?
Avremi, greenfield used his seat to get his plum job now wants to put an outsider in his seat to control him, yoni ain’t perfect but he didn’t strong arm anyone.
Dov Hikind has been the voice of the Jewish community since before some of these commentators were born. Greenfield and Yaeger are almost switching jobs. How is that for nepotism? Greenfield spent a lot of money for unneccesary projects like millions going into the 18th ave. park. Yaeger sees opportunity for making it big. The Hikind name is good for me.
The Daily News is very left wing liberal. Is that what we want to represent us?
The Daily News doesn’t want honest overseers in New York.
All I need to know is the Daily News is for Yeger? Yoni u got my vote
I am still searching for the Yoni campaign to try and badchmutz Yeger. There is plenty negative to say, but Yoni is too much mentch to do that. On the other hand, Yeger has his media outlet here to create negativity. That is good reason to keep him away from public office.
Dov Hikind has been & is a tremendous asset to the Jewish community.
Unfortunately, many of the YW readers are ill informed and evidently didn’t watch the Hamodea sponsored debate or read the entire text in this week’s Hamodea.
Dov Hikind, who I know from his days in JDL sees himself as a spokesman for Jews and Israel, but has been a largely absent and ineffective Assemblyman. He is the only member of the Assembly who dosn’t serve on any committee. After all his years in Albany he should be chairing a key committee. Dov loves press conferences more than doing the actual job as an Assemblyman.
I’m also not a fan of David Greenfield and find his role in picking the Democratic candidate troubling.
No one can deny that Yegers experience working with many elected officials and years of Community Board service serve to prepare him to represent us. As a tuition paying parent he also understands the burden of tuition and issues concerning yeshiva education. Whatever chasidish yeshiva Yeger went to prepared him was for college, law school and as a refined mentsh and thoughtful speaker. Yeger’s father represented our interests when he was a school board member many years ago when we had Community School Boards.
Young Hikind’s government experience is limited to watching his father, assisting his father and working in a program funded by his father. With neither rent nor tuition to pay I’m not sure how well young Hikind understands our daily struggles to make ends meet.
Reading the text of the entire Hamodea debate and listening to some video portions, Yeger was clearly better informed and more articulate. I was shocked and disappointed by Hikind’s poor performance. Hinkind may have a better website, more posters and a bigger campaign fund, but I don’t think he would do well in City Council debates if he found the frum panel members questions difficult. Anyone who hasn’t see the Hamodea election isections hould buy a copy of the weekend Hamodea today before voting tomorrow. My sense is that Hikind finished in 3rd place in the debate below Mr. Tishler.
What it comes down to is who can better represent the interests and needs our community in the New York City as a respected member of the Council
I always vote as the Daily News instructs me to. Last time they endorsed Al Sharpton and Al got my vote. Now I will follow them again here.
Forget about the daily news…this guy”s fundamental ignorance of public affairs is breathtaking……forget about all the rumors as to why he is single, why he lives with his parents and the father’s funneling of campaign funds to his employer to keep him from being fired…..just focus on his answers to basic policy questions in his presentations and interviews and then decide…
