Rocket fire from southern Gaza resumed on motzei shabbos. Two Grad katyusha rockets were fired, with one making a direct hit on a Netivot home. The second was fired towards Beersheva. The point of impact/detonation remains unclear.
B’chasdei Hashem there were no injuries in the rocket attack in Netivot. While the rocket did damage the structure, no one was home when it struck.
As a result of the rocket fire Beersheva Mayor Rubik Danilovich announced schools in the city will remain closed. Just last week YWN-ISRAEL reported that the Iron Dome rocket intercept system was moved from Beersheva to the Gush Dan area.
In an interview with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio), Danilovich explained there are simply too many school buildings in the city that are not fortified against rocket attacks and he is unwilling to take chances with the safety of the children.
A total of seven people were treated by emergency medical service personnel, three in Beersheva who were injured while running for cover and the others, in Netivot, treated for hysteria resulting from the attack.
Sirens sounded again on Sunday morning 22 Elul 5772 south of Ashkelon. There were no injuries reported but as a result of the rocket fire, Ashdod officials announced schools will be closed as well.
