Israel: Budget Secured for Chareidi Special Ed

As parents of chareidi special needs children continue protests and applying pressure on askanim, the decision-makers have been meeting and it appears they have found a source of funding for these children. This refers to children with learning disabilities, not children who suffer from profound developmental issues.

Deputy Education Minister (Yahadut HaTorah) Menachem Eliezer Moses has been pushing for a solution, realizing the severity and legitimacy of the problem. Following days of meetings, it appears there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Tens of millions of NIS are required to address the problem and Education Ministry officials have turned to the treasury for assistance. Eventually, the ball fell in the lap of MK (Yahadut HaTorah) Moshe Gafne in his capacity as chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee.

The treasury made its position clear, stating it has no money to add to the budget. It appears that Moses, together with the director-general of the ministry and other senior officials found funding for the development of classes. Moses apologized to the parents for the grief they endured in recent days, but it appears the situation has been resolved.
