Commenting on the bill dubbed the ‘French Law’, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday, 9 Cheshvan, addressed the law which intends to prevent a police probe into a ruling Prime Minister. Mr. Netanyahu expressed his opposition to the bill, stating he does not want nor need any bill to safeguard him from ongoing police investigations.

Proponents of the controversial bill feel it backers are working to defend PM Netanyahu against corruption charges pertaining to a number of ongoing police investigations. PM Netanyahu explained he is not interested in such a law and does not seek it to protect himself against allegations of illegal activities.

Speaking with Israel’s Meet the Press program on motzei Shabbos, author of the bill, MK David Amsellem explained he was going to push the bill to the Ministerial Law Committee on Sunday without or without the prime minister’s approval for he feels the current situation is absurd. He explains that while the prime minister tries to run the nation, he is constantly being hassled by police and compelled to respond to questions for hours. He feels if a ruling prime minister has broken the law, he will be held accountable when he steps down, but not at the expense of running the nation while in office.
