Zaka Preparing for the Worst Case Scenario

One thing is for sure, that the competition between emergency response organizations in Eretz Yisrael is resulting in better response time for all.

In the latest photo op, Zaka first responders received their new equipment in the presence of Deputy Health Minister R’ Yaakov Litzman in the minister’s office. Also present was Zaka Director Yehuda Meshi-Zahav. One might say that Zaka is preparing for the worst case scenario as the volunteers were equipped with an EMS medical bag, an automated defibrillator unit, a helmet and flak jacket. Some might say that Zaka is wisely outfitting volunteers with the necessary equipment in light of realities in southern Israel.

Zaka officials acknowledge they are doing their utmost to prepare for the worst, while davening the equipment will never be used. Experience has shown however that we must do our hishtadlus and be prepared. The recipients of this equipment are serving in Ashkelon, one of the cities in rocket range of Gaza and an area in which the need for a helmet and flak jacket is realistic.

Litzman had warm words of praise for Zaka volunteers, who he said are constantly being מקדש שם שמים.

  1. The worst case scenario would involve coordinated nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, and there is nothing Zaka could do. The headline is a bit exaggerated.
